R.I.P.

Update:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A U.S. soldier in Baghdad opened fire on his fellow soldiers Monday, killing four American soldiers, a senior defense official said.

The soldier also died, but it is unclear if someone else shot him or if he killed himself, the official said.

Three others were wounded in the incident at the U.S. military base, Camp Liberty, in Baghdad, the official said.

The U.S. military issued a news release saying only that five coalition soldiers were killed Monday in a shooting at Camp Liberty.

The military did not give the soldiers' nationalities or provide further details.

McCarthy said that next week she plans to introduce an assault weapons ban - legislation that is anathema to the NRA and that could pose a problem for Gillibrand.

Loony lefty anti-gun NY Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (who is most famous for describing a barrel shroud as "that shoulder thing that goes up") has announced that she plans to introduce an "Assault Weapon" Ban bill in congress next week.

Lets hope this goes the same way her previous attempts under President Bush went - nowhere.

Here's a major difference between Democrats and Republicans: if a criminal gets out of jail, immediately gets a gun, and commits a crime then the Democrat will blame the easy availability of guns and the Republican will blame the criminal who was released back into society too soon.

Obama and Israel

"Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller, speaking Tuesday at a U.N. meeting on the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), said Israel should join the treaty, which would require Israel to declare and relinquish its nuclear arsenal."

Could Obama make his pro-Arab anti-Israel stance any more obvious? "Hey Israel, we know you have no territorial ambitions and just want to left alone by the Arabs, and we know all those other guys want to wipe out every last one of your citizens but we think everything will be ok if you just give up your nuclear deterrent."

This isn't just a naive policy for the Obama administration it is also a really dangerous stance to take - Israel already feels threatened by Iran's nuclear ambitions (understandable considering how many times Ahmadinejad has threatened to destroy Israel) and sending a message like this to Israel just emboldens Iran and makes war in the Middle East more likely.

Colin Powell

"The Republican Party is in deep trouble," Powell told corporate security executives at a conference in Washington sponsored by Fortify Software Inc. The party must realize that the country has changed, he said. "Americans do want to pay taxes for services," he said. "Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less."

What gives Colin Powell the right to say what Americans want? No true Republican wants bigger Government and higher taxes. No true Republican wants to be taken care of and coddled by the Federal Government.

At least Arlen Specter had the decency to finally admit he is really a Democrat (even if it was just a political calculation to avoid a tough primary battle).
