Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D.-Fla.), chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee spoke at a Christian Science Monitor Breakfast on May 26.
During that speech she attacked the Republicans on immigration saying incredulously that Republicans think "[illegal immigration] should be a crime"........
Hello, "illegal", what does she think the word illegal means?
Here's what Federal law thinks it means:
TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 12 > SUBCHAPTER II > Part VIII > § 1325 § 1325. Improper entry by alien (a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts Any alien who(1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or
(2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or
(3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.
So it is in fact already illegal (punishable by 6 months+ imprisonment) to enter the United States (aka immigration) illegally.
Every single one of the 20 million or so "undocumented workers" who crossed the US border without undergoing an immigration inspection is in this country illegally and is a criminal.
What I can't figure out is if Rep. Wasserman-Schultz is just too stupid to figure out illegal immigration is already a crime, or if she knows it is a crime but is lying in her speeches by giving the impression that illegal immigration is legal.
